Halloween

A lot of the time I'm not sure what to write about on here so I'm thankful for Halloween giving me a ready made topic! Halloween this year was busy and lots of fun. We had three Halloween parties to go to so the kids got lots of candy. I was worried how our first Halloween over here would go since it's not a holiday that's celebrated much by Germans. There is not any trick or treating, except on base, so it was a little different to have Halloween and not trick or treat.

The Wednesday before the big day was our ward's party. It was pretty nice, as ward parties go, and I didn't have to cook dinner so that was wonderful. Jared was the MC for the night and he kept things running right on schedule. We started promptly and moved from eating to the costume parade to trunk or treating and then everyone went home. Hooray for starting and ending on time (but those people who were late maybe didn't appreciate it!) For the ward party Madison was a witch/hag, Emily was a rock star, Abigail was a robot, Samantha was a kitten, and Natalie was a chicken. They all had a great time and went around from trunk to trunk getting candy until there was no more candy to get!

On Halloween we had two parties, one given by Jared's squadron and one at the home of one of our American neighbors. The girls were all excited to go to the party at work because there was a costume contest with the winners getting iPods. Madison and Emily switched their costumes up; Madison was a rock star and Emily was a vampiress. Everyone else kept the same costumes - even Jared dressed up as a cereal killer (he carried around a box of cereal with a knife stuck in inside). I was surprised that there were not more people there, but maybe not that many people have kids? or perhaps they don't like Halloween? or candy? There were only seven cars for the trunk or treat which was a little sad, but the kids didn't let that stop them from going around and around collecting candy. The big excitement was when Abigail won the iPod for her age group! Her costume was so easy to make (old boxes, bottle tops, and some duct tape) and a lot of fun for the whole family to work on together. We still need to load songs on for her, she was telling me yesterday that she wants HSM, Hairspray, Dixie Chicks, and Christmas music.

Immediately after the work party we went to the party at our neighbor's house. It was a lot of fun for the kids to play with their friends that live around here. There was bobbing for apples, scary stories, and plenty of yummy food. By the time we went home we were all either exhausted or on a sugar high. Halloween is so much fun, but I am glad that's it's over and I'm ready to move on to the next big thing, Emily's birthday!
