Air Force Ball
Last month Jared auditioned to be the MC for the Air Force Ball and we were excited when we found out he had been selected. What a great reason to get all dressed up and have a fun date night. So Jared and I went to the Air Force ball this Saturday. It's basically a big party for the Air Force - happy 64th birthday Air Force!
We had to arrive a little early so Jared could go over the script and schedule for the night one last time. I was glad to have chance to look around and explore a little before everything started. The Ball Committee had somehow turned a large airplane hanger into a beautiful space for a party. There was a dance floor, enough tables and chairs for the 1200+ people who would be there, a stage for the entertainment later in the night, and a small jet off to one side where people could get professional photos taken.
I only had Jared's iPod to take pictures with, so they quality wasn't that great, but you can see that if you looked up to the ceiling you could tell we were in an airplane hanger, but otherwise it looked like a very large ballroom.
As it was time for the event to officially begin I made my way to our table but couldn't find Jared anywhere. Someone else was up front with the microphone announcing the official party (general so and so and his wife Susie, etc) and I was a little worried until the guy with the microphone said, "Now coming down the red carpet, the MC for the 2011 Air Force Ball, Master Sergeant Jared Moran" Jared got to enter on the red carpet! As Natalie would say, "How cool is that!?"
I wish I had brought our camera to take some pictures of Jared in action. He did an amazing job! He was relaxed and confident and looked really good in his mess dress uniform. Also, it was kind of like General Conference. The space was huge and there were a ton of people there, but they wanted everyone to be able to see. So there were two big screens, one of each side of the stage, and whenever Jared was at the podium speaking he was also being shown on the big screens - larger than life!!
Jared up on the big screen looking very serious
And Jared at the podium looking very washed out by the spotlight
The entertainment for the evening was by Tops in Blue, a special Air Force unit that performs all around the world. Their sequined outfits and jazz shoes took me back to my high school show choir days, but Tops in Blue is much, much better than we ever were! The group is made up of active duty Air Force members who are selected to be group members for a one year tour. They put on over 150 shows a year and are just amazing. The show was really fantastic with great music and dancing.
Going to the Air Force Ball was a lot of fun. We didn't spend the night "dancing and kissing" like Natalie thought we would, but it's always fun to get dressed up and go out with my wonderful husband!
Well, aren't you two the "belles of the Ball"? I guess Jared would be the Bell of the ball, wouldn't he? :-) You both look fabulous, and it sounds like Jared WAS fabulous. Congrats!
