The Yearly Back to School Post

It back to school time again and I wanted to share a few photos of Natalie and Samantha's first day back this year.  Natalie is five so she's "starting" kindergarten even though she's been going to the kindergarten in town for two years now.  Her three week summer break was just long enough for everyone.  She was excited to go back to school and see her friends and have some fun. Samantha started second grade this year and was happy to learn that not only would her class this year be made up of all the same kids, it would also be in the same classroom and be taught by the same teachers.

I'm not sure what Natalie was upset about, but it was a rough couple of minutes for
everyone when she did not want to go to school.
And then, three minutes later, she was perfectly happy and back to looking forward to school.  Welcome to our life with Natalie.  It's like a roller coaster, but less fun.
Once the pictures were done she was ready to go and  ran or skipped the whole way there.
Still running and still happy.  We were keeping our fingers crossed that nothing would change.
She found a dandelion and made a first day of school wish,
and then she finally got to wear her new Hausschuhe, the promise of which
kept her moving and mostly happy all morning.
Here's to our big girl on her big day!

Samantha couldn't wait to go to school.  She had a great time in first grade and has been missing seeing her friends every day over the summer.
She did not, however, want to take an official first day of school picture.  She kept saying, "I don't have to smile."  And she was right, she didn't have to smile, but at least she was holding the stinking sign and looking at the camera.
Her new backpack all loaded up with her books and supplies.  She might be the only kid in her class with a backpack like this, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy the German jet pack looking backpack.
Gummies waiting for her at her seat and an empty spot next to Laura, her best friend.  What a great first day!

  3. Samantha (and Natalie) looks so grown up! When did that happen? The "I don't have to smile" comment is so something Emeryss would say.
    Cute, cute pictures.
