Labor Day

On Labor Day we loaded up the kids and took them to Holiday Park, an amusement park just over an hour away from our house.  It was a surprise and a reward for the girls after a long summer.  Not that summer vacation usually requires a reward or anything but we hadn't done much just for fun as a family over the summer.  So my goal for the day was to have loads of fun. We rode rides screaming while throwing our hands in the air. We ate ice cream and bratwurst and slushies and doughnuts.  We rode one ride repeatedly so we could take funny pictures for the camera that would take a picture as we went down a big hill.  It was a great day and I'm glad Jared, in all of his wisdom, made sure this happened for all of us.  Okay, here's a little photo journal of our day.

Five beauties waiting to enter the park
Abigial and I were ride buddies for a lot of the day.  Here we are ready for our very first ride of the day!
Emily and Samantha were our other set of ride buddies.  Emily is a little, okay  a lot, afraid of heights.  To help her warm up to the bigger rides we started our day in the area of the park designed for smaller kids that is filled with less scary rides.
By ride number three Emily was good and warm.  Hands up and smiling the whole time.
This was our first water ride.  A bunch of water had just splashed over the side of the boat
and landed right in Samantha's lap.
Natalie went to driving school while Madison, Emily, Abigail and I rode a roller coaster .  She told me she
was a good driver and that she only crashed  couple of times.
Natalie won this little dolphin which she named Splashy.  Splashy doesn't like to swim or get wet so
it's good he came home with Natalie.
Such a delicious green apple slushie that also served as an ice pack for Samantha who had banged her lip on a ride.
The big pirate ship ride!  I love this picture because Emily is loving every terrifying second, Jared is so relaxed he's just having a little conversation with Samantha who looks like she's going to be sick, and Abigail is scared out of her wits.
This was the last big ride of the day.  At this point Jared and I were both feeling old and worn out.  We used to be able to ride roller coasters all day, now we felt sick and queasy after a day of twisting and dropping and being throw around.   I took the hit and rode this with Emily and Madison.  Poor Abigail was too short and too young to ride this one.  She stayed on the ground and took these pictures instead.  That's us with our hands in the air and the car went almost straight down and started twisting us sideways.
I know this is blurry and really hard to see, but I had to document our ride.  Emily and I are in the second row from the left and Madison (see the red hair?) in the fourth row from the left.
One last picture to remember our day - the whole family on the Teufelsfässer.  The ride is only supposed to be for six people at a time, but the ride attendants weren't paying attention so we all squeezed into one log. As we were waiting in the log for the ride to start, all squeezed into the ride together, we got lots of laughs from the people in line.
There was a sign along the track telling us the camera was coming so we were all ready for the picture
That was the end of our day of fun.  One great day and then it was back to real life.  I'm so grateful we had a chance to spend a fun day as a whole family before our busy lives start back up again.

  1. Oh my goodness, that looks like so much FUN! Like, I was smiling through this whole post. You know, that last picture would make a GREAT Christmas card picture, complete with the word "holiday" and the picture of the devil :-)
