Eleven Years with Fenway

Christmas Eve is the best day of the year around here. We have the excitement of Christmas coupled with the excitement of Samantha's birthday. She's our sweet Christmas Eve baby and we love celebrating her every year on December 24th. I know lots of people with December birthdays feel like they are missing out on something or that their special day gets lost in the Christmas festivities. Luckily Samantha doesn't mind . . . yet.

This year she wasn't feeling well on her birthday so we had to quickly celebrate during the brief moments when the tylenol had kicked in and she was feeling somewhat happy. We could tell the fever was back and it was time for a new dose when she would get weepy for no reason at all. It's never fun to be sick, especially not on your birthday, but Samantha is usually the kind of kid who makes the best of things and I think she had a fun day despite being sick.

Samantha wanted to eat lunch, open presents, and then have birthday cake. The entire celebration stretched from lunch to dinner with time for a nap in the middle!

Sam did kind of get a raw deal in the cake department this year - boxed mix and canned frosting. We did our best to make it special with some decorations and sparkler candles.

She needed to think for a minute about her wish before she was ready to blow out the candles. This is a perfect example of Samantha's personality and how carefully she approaches life.  It's important to get it just right, after all, you only get one birthday wish each year.

At eleven, Samantha Fenway is still a sweet kid and more a little girl than a tween or pre-teen. She loves music and art. She is a bit of a perfectionist and always strives to do her best. She's organized and responsible and you can always count on her to follow through and complete any task she's given. She might not do it happily, but she'll get the job done! There's just something about Samantha that people (kids and adults) love. We're grateful that she's a part of our family and love seeing her grow and change year by year.
