April Events

This post could also be titled "Stuff That Happened in April But Didn't Happen in France" but that's kind of a mouthful. We did finally make it back to the land where everyone speaks English and recovered from our adventures just in time for the girls to start back to their regular school routines and for Jared to head back to work. But there were still a few noteworthy events in April that didn't involve baguettes....

Abigail applied and was selected for induction into her high school's National Honor Society chapter. I think she sometimes feels a little bit of pressure to measure up to her older sisters accomplishments academically, socially, and in pretty much every other arena of life. But honestly, Abigail is an amazing person. She's smart, strong, determined, a hard worker, funny, friendly, talented, sensitive, and beautiful. She makes people feel included and loved just by being her friendly, outgoing self. All of that may not have much to do with selection to an honor society, but it has a lot to do with why people are drawn to her and feel happy when she's around.

Emily and Abigail started another season of practices and games for the Lady Lancers varsity soccer team. We are so grateful for the opportunities that living overseas and attending Lakenheath High School has given our children. At most large or even average sized high schools in America, these two girls, who are athletic but not girls who have specialized in soccer over the years, wouldn't have a chance at playing varsity soccer. Their team this year did okay and actually won a few games, including two at the European Tournament at the end of the season. Their coach selected a different team captain for each game and Emily spent a lot of games wearing the captain's armband. Abigail played on the field for the regular season and spent most of Euros playing as a goalie for the team. We loved watching them play - they developed great friendships with their teammates, strengthened their soccer skills, traveled all over Europe to play games, and had a lot of fun.

I have no idea why I took this picture, but it was probably because it's so stinking sweet. Our girls sure love their dad. And who can blame them? He's an amazing man and everything he does is for our family and for them. I read somewhere that today's little moments become tomorrow's precious memories. This little moment is certainly a precious memory as we watch our little ones grow into strong young women.
