Rock of Cashel
Today is our last full day in Ireland and the girls were campaigning hard for a day spent at our Airbnb playing ping pong, air hockey, and card games. To be fair, it was tempting to take their plan and run with it but we didn't want to spend a day in Ireland doing things we could do at home on any other Saturday. We ended up doing a mix of what they wanted to do and spending some time at another beautiful Irish spot. We slept in this morning and took our time getting ready before heading out in the early afternoon after which our evening was spent playing games.
We've been sharing our fun house here in Ireland with our friends the Martins. Even though we've all been here together we've been doing our own thing each day and just hanging out together in the evenings. We love the Martin family! They are easy going travel buddies and a lot of fun to be around. Our girls and their boys have gotten along so well these past few days. Their son Zeke asked today if hanging out with the Moran girls is what it would be like to have sisters. Yep, it would be exactly like this.
For our last day, we decided to go sightseeing together. But first, the kids had to have an air hockey tournament. Abigail quickly made up a bracket and they started playing. Samantha was the ultimate winner and her cute little victory dance after each point was the best. Our girls are competitive and get really intense about things like this. The Martin boys seem to be just in it for the fun of playing and it was interesting to see the different ways they reacted to winning and losing.
Once the air hockey champion had been crowned we got in our red rental cars and drove to Cashel to visit the Rock of Cashel. The Rock was originally the home of the kings of the Munster but was given to the church. All that's left today of the cathedral that used to be there is the main walls. The roof is entirely gone. There is one tall round tower, a smaller chapel, and a graveyard surrounding the buildings. We just roamed over the grounds exploring, trying to get into the tower, and climbing on things we maybe shouldn't have. I think the most fun part for the girls was after we left the main structure and the kids all climbed around on the rocky hill on which the castle/cathedral sits.
This evening we set a goal to eat as much of the food as we had left in the house as possible. Our dinner was an eclectic mix of pasta, vegetables, fruits, crackers, cereal, and cheese. While we were snacking our way through our remaining food we played games together. We always try to pack games when we travel and card games are a good fit for the RyanAir only bring one backpack way of flying. We've played almost every game we brought with us at least once but this evening we played lots of Cover Your Assets and Scum.
What a perfect final day of vacation this was. It was a great mix of sightseeing, relaxing, and having fun together. We're going to miss Ireland when we're gone.
